“Number” is a compilation of activities designed to introduce the numbers 1 to 20. Each number is addressed in
numeral and word form, encouraging students to identify numbers in both forms. Activities promote a comprehensive
understanding of numbers by giving students opportunities practise counting using one-to-one correspondence and
to identify numbers in different grouping arrangements and arrays.
The simple format of each task allow students to work independently or in small groups while the extension games
included allow students to consolidate their counting and number recognition skills informally.
Where appropriate, assessment indicators have been included to assist in monitoring student progress.
These activities are also suitable for inclusion in student portfolios.
The activities included in “Number” will complement the teaching and learning of numbers in the lower primary
classroom and help students create a solid foundation on which to build further numeration skills.
