“Addition” is a compilation of activities designed to introduce addition and provide strategies for numbers to 20
and beyond. Initial activities encourage the use of concrete materials to establish the concept of addition through ‘real life’
number stories. The activities which follow allow students to consolidate the addition concept while providing a pool of
strategies to promote written and mental computation.
The simple format of each task allows students to work independently or in small groups.
Consolidation tasks have been included to allow students to practise strategies they have learnt mentally and in
abstract written form.
Assessment pages have been included to assist in the monitoring of student progress.
These activities are also suitable for inclusion in student portfolios.
